On Monday, December 2nd, the Office of the Research Dean hosted the 2024 John M. Lewis Memorial Lecture. The lecture is supported by the Irma T. Hirschl Trust and is held annually at one of the six New York area medical schools that receives funds from the trust.
This year’s speaker was Dr. Olga Boudker, Interim Chair and Professor, Department of Phyisiology and Biophysics, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and 2011 Recipient of the Irma T. Hirschl Career Scientist Award. Dr. Boudker’s presentation entitled “The Molecular Mechanisms of Glutamate Transporters: Ancient Pumps Regulating Neurotransmission” was well received by audiences both in-person and via webinar. The lecture highlighted Dr. Boudker’s extensive career as a researcher, and celebrated her numerous accomplishments.
Since 1972, the Irma T. Hirschl awards have provided support to numerous junior faculty researchers across Einstein Medical School, NYU Grossman School ofMedicine, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Columbia Medical School,The Rockefeller University, and Weill Cornell Medicine, the six New York area medical school. These awards have recognized over 90 faculty members from WCM.The awardees have gone on to receive notable awards and elections to prestigious societies such as the NAS, NAM, and ASCI, as a result of their accomplishments funded by the grant.
